Pack Well, Travel Right

EQUIPMENT

  • The Doona Travel Stroller/Carseat

From stroller to car seat in seconds, the packaging doesn’t lie, this is a travel game changer! §  What I love about this is the ability to pop it easily into a rental car, family car or any other transit, take it on trains or buses and then drop the wheels and go.  It’s one of the most brilliant designs and actually weighs less than my normal infant car seat, can turn on a dime and is narrow enough to navigate the plane aisle as a stroller.

  • Folding Pockit Stroller

    Folding Pockit Stroller

This stroller is my favorite travel stroller, it folds into a 12" x 12" square which tucks nicely under your feat in a car, a plane or in small spots for storage. It's best for kids 12 mos and up as it's not super adjustable, but was perfect once baby outgrew the Doona. Small basket under too.

  • Baby Wearer

    Baby Wearer

Many brands, I like Illebaby All-Seasons for local places, but my Ergobaby one folds much nicer into the suitcase and I find to be more comfy on the plane. NOTE: you can't wear baby for take-off and landing in the US and can't wear them at all on European Flights.

  • Black-Out Pack-n-Play Cover

At first it seemed weird covering the pack-n-play like that, but after a couple of times with it, we never left home without it. Its breathable and they can see out but it makes naps so much easier because it instantly darkens the space, even if its daytime/bright out. As they get older, we leave the top zipper open so they can wake up and peak through it.

  • Lobster Chair

I've taken this chair literally all over the world. It clips on just about any table and the tray snaps on, so if high chairs aren't available, or space is tight, baby is still set. It also works great in rentals and hotel rooms. It adds weight to the suitcase but folds flat and also fits in a stroller basket to take around. Big travel win.

  • Portable Sound Machine

    Portable Sound Machine

This little gem is great for little babies as you push them around. It has several sounds and you can set it for a timed amount or on long-term. The volume isn't too high so it's good to block noise without being deafening. It's also pretty durable as mine has seen a few drops.

  • Noise blocking ear covers

    Noise blocking ear covers

These are a must if you're going to any sort of event/fair/festival with loud noise, but I use them on airplanes as well. When my 3 year old wants to nap on a plane she'll ask for them, it gives just enough sound dampening to make it easy for littles to fall asleep.

  • Stroller Fan-Battery Powered

    Stroller Fan-Battery Powered

There are a bunch of brands, but one that holds a charge and can last the whole day is clutch. Also pick one that has good grips and will stay connected on your stroller so it points at baby without flopping down. We have one for each kid and as they get older they walk around holding it, made all the difference when we went to Disney in August.

  • Foldable Crib/Pack-n-play mattress

We struggled with baby/toddler sleeping well on trips when in a pack-n-play. The hard pad was noisy at times and uncomfortable. The hiccapop mattress has been amazing, it fits in mini cribs and pack-n-play, because it is foam I can fit it in my suitcase (takes space but not much weight) and it's easy to wash and clean. HIGHLY recommend.

  • Folding Sun Shades for Car Rides

Sunscreen is usually a no-brainer, but we don't always think about the car ride. These have been great, they are tiny, lightweight and easily cling to the car windows so baby can nap as we drive without bright glare in their eyes/bad SPF rays.

GERM PROTECTION

  • Pacifier Clips

Sounds like a no-brainer but our oldest used a Wubba Nub and it was a constant battle to keep that thing close to her.  The paci clip can be used for a whole lot of things on the airplane from teethers to books, makes it so much easier for the little to keep track of their things.

  • Disinfecting wipes

    Disinfecting wipes

These are amazing and bring peace of mind on planes, out to eat and in pretty much all public places. They are easy to grab and work very effectively.

  • Pacifier Wipes

These use baking soda as the main ingredient to clean, so you aren't using harsh chemicals on things baby will put in their mouth. I love them. I have gone through a whole pack cleaning things that hit the ground/seat on airplanes. Do keep the pack closed as they tend to dry out faster than normal wipes if left open.

  • Foldable Potty Seat

    Foldable Potty Seat

My daughter was all about potty training and was in undies by age 2, which made travel interesting as she was still too little to use most toilets comfortably.  This seat made it easy (and sanitary!) and gives her the confidence and comfort to use public toilets-fits into the diaper bag no problem.

ACTIVITIES

Top

  • The Foldable Infant Activity Mat

Before baby is fully on the go, this is amazing.  The bendy activity bars tuck into my suitcase and the mat folds flat, it adds almost no weight but gives baby a clean place to lay, play and move.

  • Foldable Mirror/Activity Book

    Foldable Mirror/Activity Book

This little toy was perfect for baby, all the way up to a year, it would entertain them for long flights. We'd look in the mirror, flip it and play with the pictures, flip it again and go through shapes. Its flat, fits in a purse or diaper bag, lightweight and cleans up easily. It's also great to prop on the play mat in the hotel room for tummy time.

  • Noise Reducing Headphones

    Noise Reducing Headphones

Our kids only get to use the tablet on airplane rides longer than 2 hours, so it's a special treat. We use noise reducing headphones so we know her little ears aren't being blasted. This pair let her customize with princess stickers, so she was all in.

  • Mess-Free Wonder Markers

    Mess-Free Wonder Markers

The stress of kids coloring on places they shouldn't instantly disappears with these. They don't leave messes anywhere except the special paper that lets the ink show. NOTE: You MUST have the special paper that these work on or it's a bit of a flop.

  • Pop Spinner

These are amazing for infants.  I stick them on the airplane window/tray table/arm rest and the baby or I spin it and it keeps them occupied for a good while, plus, no risk of it being dropped since its suctioned on.

  • Mini Books

These genius little books are perfect as kids get bigger. You can fit way more into a bag (even a backpack kiddo carries) without adding bulk or weight. They are a little more flimsy so baby may try to rip, but good for story time and are brightly colored.
